Just a short entry, but something I wanted to share. I’ve sold cartoons that I’ve created on my iPad to major publications such as the Wall Street Journal and Prospect magazine in the UK – just an inexpensive drawing app and a stylus, and in some cases, my index finger.
I believe that, with time and practice, there is enormous potential for illustrators and cartoonists with this technology. The advantages are considerable: portability, expense ($5 for a drawing app as opposed to $600+ for Photoshop). Give it a try – it could open up a whole bunch of new possibilities!
What app did you use?
For this one I used an app called, ironically, Procreate. I also use Artstudio and Sketchpro.
What stylus do you use?
I hope the last blog post helped answer your very good question!
Thanks for sharing the app names. I had the question too. Do you describe somewhere in your website how you do your cartoons? I developed my own technique -not out of school- and always look for ways to improve the quality of what I produce as well as the time I spend on it. Thanks!
Hi Carole – As a matter of fact, I’ll be using my next blog post to describe in detail exactly how I create a “Spectickles” cartoon. And the one after that will be the different process I use for a “Percenters” cartoon – I’ll have it posted in the next few days – thank you for your comments!
Thanks for sharing resources, and humor. Both very helpful! I’ll study what you posted!
